Childlike Faith

I remember how exciting it was to graduate from eighth grade. My classmates and I had music in mind when we chose our class motto. It was, “Be sharp, be natural, but never be flat.”

Pretty clever, huh?

I was chatting with my next door neighbor the other day and heard about her recent eighth grade graduation from Riverside Christian School, East Grand Forks. Boy, did it bring back memories except that instead of class mottos, RCS graduates had Bible verses!

All 10 members of my young friend’s class had to give a speech on commencement night. What a good experience for them. Knowing this young lady, who is always so kind and friendly and helpful, as is her brother, I knew she’dhave wonderful words of wisdom. I was right. After reading her speech, I asked if I could share it with the world. She said yes.

Here it is in its entirety.

Hi, my name is Rachael Dugan. I have been at Riverside Christian School for nine years.

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” John 1:1. God is the Alpha and Omega, I believe He exists and the Bible says He created the universe. God exists and I can count on the sun rising in the morning and setting in the evening. I see His beauty all around me, vibrant rainbows, and the sunrise. God is so amazing. I stand in awe of Him.

I know what is true because in John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” I know what is true because in the Bible God tells me this is so.

God’s rules never change; His rules stay the same today, tomorrow and every day. God’s most important rules are the Ten Commandments. God gives me a choice to choose Him or the world. I choose Him!

God created me for His purpose. He is my designer. In Genesis 1:1 it says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

I was created in God’s image. I have a spiritual body and a physical body. I can have a personal relationship with God which means I can talk with Him whenever I need Him.

God knew me before I was born. He placed me in my home and family for a purpose. Family plays a big part in my life. I know I can always go to them.

Influential people in my life are my mom, my aunt Quinlan and my dad. I admire them so much. Whenever I am with Quinlin I know I will always have a blast. My mom has always been there for me. She is a godly woman and I admire her. My dad is a spiritual leader in my house. He is always there for me whenever I need to talk to somebody. He listens to me. He also helps with basketball so that I can be better.

I would like to share some memories now of Riverside Christian School.

Mrs. Waind, I will never forget the time we went on the bee field trip to Fargo. I had a blast. And Phoenix baseball was so much fun.

Mrs. Schimke, I will always remember when we got to play with shaving cream on the table.

Mrs. Rustad, our coffee and licorice days were always the best.

These are only a few out of the many members I have.

I accepted Jesus into my life at the age of 4. I know that when I die I don’t I have to worry where I will be going because I know I am going to be with Jesus in eternity.

Next year I will be attending East Grand Forks Senior High. I am not sure yet what I want to be when I grow up, but I do know God has a plan for my life. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord.

Thank you all for coming out tonight.
And I say thanks, Rachael-the-neighbor-girl, for sharing your faith, first with me and then with all my readers. I think the sharing of faith is a very good day brightener.

Until soon
